Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced the indictment of eight individuals linked to an illegal abortion investigation involving<\/a> a midwife, Maria Margarita Rojas. Rojas was arrested in March for operating unlicensed clinics in Northwest Houston, misrepresenting herself adn her staff as licensed medical professionals, and performing abortions in violation of the Texas Human Life Protection Act. The eight individuals charged, some of whom are foreign nationals, were connected to clinics in Waller, Cypress, Spring, and Katy. Only one is accused of illegally performing an abortion. The accused are alleged to have endangered patients by running clinics staffed by unlicensed personnel. Rojas faces 15 felony charges, including performing abortions and practicing medicine without a license. Paxton condemned the operation as illegal and harmful and pledged to enforce Texas’s pro-life laws<\/a> rigorously.
