O’Neall, supported by the state Democratic Party, won with 1,808 votes compared to Pruhs’s 1,528, marking the first time in nearly a decade that a Democrat leads Alaska’s second-largest city. Pruhs, who was first elected in 2022 after a long-serving Republican predecessor, conceded and acknowledged the strong backing O’Neall received from Democratic organizations amid low voter turnout<\/a>-about 15% of registered voters.
