The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has strongly rejected illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s accusations regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Chicago, labeling his statements as “harmful lies.” Pritzker criticized ICE agents on CNN and during a press conference,referring to them as “Noem’s thugs”-a reference to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem-and vowed to resist what he called a federal “power grab.” DHS responded by defending the actions of ICE and Customs and Border Protection, denying claims that ICE’s operations involved racial profiling or unconstitutional actions. The agency maintained that their enforcement efforts are legal, constitutional, and not based on race or ethnicity, but targeted at those unlawfully present in the U.S. DHS emphasized the necessity of protecting federal property<\/a> and accused Pritzker of ignoring violent crime issues in Chicago linked to his policies.
