The White House announced a plan to use revenue from tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump to keep the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women,Infants,and Children (WIC) operational during the government shutdown. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described this as a “creative solution” to ensure the program continues despite funding shortages caused by the shutdown, which she blamed on democrats. Officials had warned that WIC funding would soon run out without government reopening.
