This reflects a small decline from Monday’s $3.133 and nearly three cents less than a week earlier. Gas prices have remained relatively stable throughout 2025, mostly fluctuating between $3.12 and $3.21 per gallon.

The current pricing continues a trend of affordable gas costs reminiscent of the Trump management era, contrasting earlier higher prices under the Biden administration. In recent months, several states have seen prices under $3 per gallon, with 28 states now reporting such prices.

The cheapest gas is found in oklahoma at $2.585 per gallon, followed by Mississippi and Arkansas, while California has the highest prices, averaging $4.655 per gallon, over $1.50 above the national average. Other states with high prices include Washington, Hawaii, Oregon, and Nevada.

the article highlights steady and affordable gas prices across much of the U.S., with regional variations persisting.

Gas prices: Decrease at the pumps for the first week of October

The national average price for regular gas decreased on Tuesday, dropping to $3.121 per gallon.

Tuesday’s pricing is a slight decrease from Monday, when the national average was $3.133 per gallon. Gone are the days of high fuel costs and surging prices of the Biden administration — so far. Look no further than fuel costs over the last month to demonstrate the stability in the market. October started with a national average of $3.16 per gallon, an increase from Tuesday’s $3.15 per gallon price point, but generally in the same price threshold.

The national average for a gallon of regular gas during the last week of September was $3.148. This is compared to the beginning of that month, when gas was $3.186 per gallon, the day after Labor Day weekend. At the end of July, the national average for a gallon of gas was $3.14, whereas at the end of June it was $3.185 per gallon — the lowest price to end June since 2021. And when gas prices were supposed to start to heat up to correlate with the beginning of summer, Memorial Day Weekend, and the summer driving season, the cost of fuel was $3.18 per gallon.

These fluctuations have continued for most of the year. However, Tuesday’s national average price is the cheapest gas since Trump’s first full day in office, when the cost was $3.126.

In the contemporary gas price market, analysis experts have used a $3-per-gallon price point as a reasonable cost when evaluating the affordability of nationwide gas prices. With fuel costs remaining steady and less expensive than earlier in the year, the number of states averaging less than $3 per gallon has fluctuated. Today, over half the country has statewide averages for gas at less than $3 per gallon, with 28 states having such price points, according to AAA.

FRENCH PRIME MINISTER RESIGNS AFTER LESS THAN FOUR WEEKS IN OFFICE

Oklahoma has the cheapest gas prices in the nation, at $2.585 per gallon. Mississippi is next, at $2.677 per gallon. Arkansas has the third-cheapest gas prices, with a statewide average cost for regular gas of $2.71 per gallon. This is followed by Louisiana, at $2.713 per gallon, and then Tennessee, at $2.738.

California has the most expensive gas prices in the country at $4.655, over $1.50 higher than the national average. Next is the state of Washington, with an average price of $4.508 per gallon for regular gas.
