A Navy civilian employee, Malika Brittingham, falsely reported an active shooter threat<\/a> at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey by texting a co-worker that she heard gunshots. This led too a base lockdown, causing panic and disrupting operations for about an hour. After no shooter was found, Brittingham admitted she fabricated the threat to “trauma bond” with coworkers over a shared frightening experience. She was arrested and charged with conveying false information<\/a> about an active shooter. U.S.Attorney Alina Habba condemned the act as senseless fear-mongering and vowed to enforce the law strictly against such disruptions. Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is the largest military base<\/a> in New Jersey, employing thousands across the Air force, Army, and Navy.
