Whoopi Goldberg<\/a> told Democratic New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani<\/a> that she would pay his proposed taxes on the rich “if everybody pays” on The View<\/a><\/em> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Goldberg took issue with Mamdani’s campaign platform of taxing all those who earn more than $1 million annually at a flat 2% rate<\/a>. <\/p>\n

“Well, so one of the things that I’ve heard you talk about is making the city affordable for everybody, and that you’re gonna, you know, put a tax on people who make over a million bucks, but what I want to know —” Goldberg said before Mamdani interrupted her.<\/p>\n
“With an exception for Joy,” Mamdani jokingly said, referring to cohost Joy Behar.<\/p>\n
While most other hosts on the panel laughed, Behar, a former comedian, pursed her lips and looked away from Mamdani. Behar has an estimated net worth of $30 million<\/a> and earns approximately $7 million on The View<\/em><\/a> yearly.<\/p>\n
“Think again, my friend,” Goldberg said. “But, listen, on Day One, why aren’t you going to big corporations like Amazon and Google and making sure that they pay what could really help the city raise up and get us where we need to be?”<\/p>\n
“If you were running for mayor, I’d be voting for you, because I think, I think, Whoopi, to your point, the corporate greed that we’re seeing in this country, it cannot be separated from the level of inequality that people are living through,” Mamdani said. <\/p>\n
He went on to explain that his platform includes a corporate tax rate of 11.5%, mirroring that of neighboring New Jersey.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the top 1% <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tax.ny.gov\/data\/stats\/taxfacts\/personal-income-tax.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pay<\/a> about 48% of New York City’s bills, with 0.01% paying nearly 31%. <\/p>\n“So I just want to make sure that you understand people want to make the city work and people will back you if everybody is paying their fair share,” Goldberg added.<\/p>\n“Absolutely,” Mamdani agreed. <\/p>\n“If everybody pays, then I don’t mind paying. If just some folks are paying, I’m not happy,” Goldberg concluded.<\/p>\nGoldberg is an award-winning actress with an estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.celebritynetworth.com\/richest-celebrities\/actors\/whoopi-goldberg-net-worth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">net worth of $30 million<\/a>.
