A Utah Republican state legislator, Trevor Lee, has proposed renaming a road in salt Lake city currently named after gay rights activist Harvey Milk too honor Charlie Kirk, who was recently assassinated in Utah. Lee argues that Kirk has a stronger connection to Utah, having died there, while Milk was killed in California and has no ties to Utah. Kirk was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University,and his death has sparked this legislative effort to commemorate him. The proposal has drawn attention because the road was named in 2016 after Milk, the first openly gay elected official<\/a> in California. The Salt Lake City mayor has not commented on the bill.
