a Border Patrol official authorized to speak with the media wrote in an email to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. &ldquo;For the potential shutdown &mdash; Yes, Border Patrol agents are essential and will continue to work at the border and in Chicago\/Portland in support of ICE operations.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Late last week, Border Patrol sent an unspecified number of agents to Chicago and Portland due to violence outside ICE facilities after a mass shooting that killed one detainee and injured two others in Dallas last week.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Pam Bondi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3827369\/pam-bondi-to-deploy-doj-agents-to-ice-facilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> on Sept. 26 that Justice Department law enforcement would be dispatched to assist and prevent violence, such as vandalism and arson at facilities, and attacks against employees.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Homeland Security has also raced to expand security at all&nbsp;ICE facilities nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>A DHS spokeswoman told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that the federal department would not tolerate targeted&nbsp;violence&nbsp;against its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/update-washington-d-c-mayor-muriel-bowser-was-warned-but-refused-any-additional-help-before-january-6th-vote-on-stolen-election\/\" title=\"UPDATE: Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser Was Warned but Refused Any Additional Help Before January 6th Vote on Stolen Election\">law enforcement personnel<\/a> and has begun to put a plan into place to beef up security at and around ICE field offices and detention sites from coast to coast.<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, ICE has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/detention-facilities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">122 detention facilities<\/a>&nbsp;that it uses to hold illegal immigrants who are in custody and going through deportation proceedings in court, as well as more than 150 offices.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, at least four people were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/3829084\/four-people-charged-chicago-anti-ice-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrested<\/a> and now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/audio-shows-hunter-biden-begging-hallie-for-money-like-a-child-for-four-minutes-straight\/\" title=\"Audio Shows Hunter Biden Begging Hallie for Money Like a Child for Four Minutes Straight\">face federal criminal charges<\/a> for involvement in violence targeting ICE&rsquo;s detention center in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Border Patrol agents were spotted over the weekend in Chicago, walking downtown on Michigan Avenue. <\/p>\n<p>Gov.
