Scalise Responds.\u00a0\">domestic violent extremism<\/a>,&rsquo;&rdquo; she added.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fact-check-studies-claim-right-responsible-political-violence-accurate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously documented<\/a>, the problems with the Cato Institute study are numerous.<\/p>\n<p>Not only does it not count all the acts of violence that erupted during the violent Black Lives Matter and Antifa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/remembering-lives-lost-businesses-destroyed-mostly-peaceful-riots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">riots of 2020<\/a>, but it even excludes the Sept. 11 terror attack.<\/p>\n<p>The study also misclassifies some domestic terror attacks as right-wing when the evidence suggests they weren&rsquo;t politically motivated, according to PJ Media author and columnist Matt Margolis.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Does anyone else find it odd that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CatoInstitute?\">@CatoInstitute<\/a> failed to include the George Floyd riots and other leftist violence from 2020-2021 in this chart? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4rvqzbp8jC\">pic.twitter.com\/4rvqzbp8jC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Matt Margolis (@mattmargolis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattmargolis\/status\/1968112179313529182?\">September 17, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Consider, for instance, the Oklahoma City bombing.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As I suspected, [the study] categorized Timothy McVeigh&rsquo;s ideology as &lsquo;right-wing,&rsquo; but this classification is debatable,&rdquo; Margolis wrote recently for PJ Media.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;McVeigh was an anti-government extremist whose rage stemmed from anger over the 1993 Waco siege and the 1992 Ruby Ridge standoff, not from conservative ideology,&rdquo; he added.<\/p>\n<p>McVeigh was also reportedly a pro-abortion agnostic.<\/p>\n<p>According to Amber Duke of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/09\/19\/think-tanks-adl-cato-institute-right-left-wing-violence-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Caller<\/a>, the Cato Institute study only &ldquo;counts killings, so we <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >miss highly notable political violence<\/a> like the two assassination attempts on Trump, the 2017 Republican baseball shooting, the attempted stabbing of Lee Zeldin, a neighbor attacking Sen. Rand Paul, the attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a bomb planted under a Fox News van that failed to detonate, and others.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Responding to Couric&rsquo;s post, critics assailed her for propagating what they charged was a &ldquo;bulls**t&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-turns-tables-reporter-pushing-false-narratives-controversial-bill\/?ff_source=gnaa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">narrative<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Because it was bullshit.
