clothing and the kind of car they were spotted driving, and their license plates with accompanying pictures, among other identifying information.<\/p>\n<p>StopIce additionally dispatches <a href=\"https:\/\/stopice.net\/?rapidresponseteams=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regional rapid-response cells<\/a> to serve as &ldquo;boots on the ground.&rdquo; Once enlisted in the StopIce network, local units conduct &ldquo;community patrols&rdquo; and respond accordingly to reported ICE activity.<\/p>\n<p>To date, StopIce has amassed almost 500,000 subscribers across the country and raised more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/stop-ice-raids-alert-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$30,000 on GoFundMe<\/a> to finance the site&rsquo;s development, including increased security protocols. The custom-built encrypted platform is advertised to ensure the full anonymity of its users.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3459355\/what-to-know-about-the-ice-tracking-app\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ICE TRACKING APPS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Homeland Security sent a subpoena ordering Meta to turn over all subscriber names, email addresses, and telephone numbers associated with the website&rsquo;s Instagram account <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/stopicenet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@StopIceNet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In response, CLDC and the ACLU&rsquo;s Northern California chapter challenged the subpoena <a href=\"https:\/\/cldc.org\/protecting-free-speech-cldc-challenges-ice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on First Amendment grounds<\/a>, arguing in separate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/71382731\/in-the-matter-of-the-subpoena-number-fy25-elc-0105\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">court<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/71386144\/v-united-states-department-of-homeland-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cases<\/a> that their clients&rsquo; operations are a form of constitutionally protected free speech.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[A]nonymous actors engaged in protected political speech possess a First Amendment right to remain anonymous,&rdquo; says CLDC&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/cldc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1-20250918-RTF-Notice-and-Motion-to-Quash-FILED.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suit<\/a>, particularly &ldquo;rights to anonymous speech and association.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/3477574\/democratic-rhetoric-justifies-ice-masks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>DEMOCRATIC RHETORIC JUSTIFIES ICE AGENT MASKS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am haunted by the possibility that the government will find out who I am using this subpoena,&rdquo; one of ACLU Northern California&rsquo;s clients, proceeding pseudonymously as &ldquo;John Doe,&rdquo; said in <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cand.456560\/gov.uscourts.cand.456560.1.2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a declaration<\/a> submitted to the court.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/cldc.org\/legality-of-exposing-ice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a press release<\/a>, CLDC partnered with the ACLU of Northern California to help each of the six suspects cited in the subpoena find representation through their &ldquo;legal networks.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>CLDC, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/nonprofits\/organizations\/943213100\/202203189349311670\/IRS990ScheduleI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bankrolled<\/a> by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/George-Soros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Soros<\/a>-backed Tides Center, says it &ldquo;supports the struggle,&rdquo; namely movements that &ldquo;seek to dismantle the political and economic structures at the root of social inequality.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A screenshot of the Civil Liberties Defense Center&rsquo;s website.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>In recent years, CLDC has represented a number of antifa clients, including two Rose City antifa militants who investigative journalist Andy Ngo <a href=\"https:\/\/libertycenter.org\/ngo-v-rose-city-antifa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sued<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MrAndyNgo\/status\/1454204820030636032\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">brutally assaulting him<\/a> on the streets of Portland. The 2019 mob-style attack left him <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MrAndyNgo\/status\/1145116276605329408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hospitalized<\/a> with a bleeding brain.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, CLDC <a href=\"https:\/\/cldc.org\/in-memoriam-charles-charlie-landeros-1988-january-11-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">honored<\/a> &ldquo;in memoriam&rdquo; school shooter Charlie Landeros, a known &ldquo;non-binary&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/antifa-far-left-violence-extremism-deadly-year-opnion-1477065\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">antifa activist<\/a>. Most recently, CLDC <a href=\"https:\/\/mastodon.social\/@CLDC\/115257367679692403\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> President Donald Trump&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-teases-order-to-dismantle-left-wing-terror-networks\/\" title=\"Trump teases order to &#039;dismantle&#039; left-wing terror networks\">executive order designating antifa<\/a> as a domestic terrorist organization &ldquo;B.S.&rdquo; and claimed that the &ldquo;majority of Americans hold antifascist political beliefs.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>As for the contested subpoena, Judge Thomas X. Hixson, <a href=\"https:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/fecimg\/?201610210200513827\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a Kamala Harris donor<\/a>, has since issued <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cand.456560\/gov.uscourts.cand.456560.4.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a temporary stay<\/a>. This means Meta is under court order not to hand over the requested records to DHS until the matter is adjudicated.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/transparency.meta.com\/reports\/government-data-requests\/further-asked-questions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">company policy<\/a>, Meta may independently push back on government requests if the tech giant decides that a subpoena is &ldquo;not consistent with applicable law or our policies.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If the request is unlawful (for example, overly broad, or legally deficient in any way), we will challenge or reject the request,&rdquo; Meta&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/soros-funded-group-launches-activism-training-program\/\" title=\"Soros-funded group launches activism training program\">frequently-asked-questions page<\/a> says. &ldquo;We encourage governmental agencies to submit only requests that are necessary, proportionate, specific, and strictly compliant with applicable laws, by publishing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/safety\/groups\/law\/guidelines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">guidelines for government requests<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> contacted CLDC, ACLU Northern California, Meta, and DHS for comment.<\/p>\n<p>DHS subpoenaing Meta comes after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem promised to pursue anyone involved in doxing efforts against ICE officers after the names, pictures, and personal addresses of agents were published.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We will prosecute those who dox ICE agents to the fullest extent of the law.
