Edwards had made statements opposing what he called a &#8220;fascist regime&#8221; and suggested that political opponents should face war crime trials and harsh punishments. Following an internal investigation confirming policy violations related to speech and social networking, Sheriff Charles Blackwood terminated Edwards&#8217; employment to maintain public trust and professionalism. Edwards, who joined the Sheriff&#8217;s Office in 2022 and was previously involved in college political activities as a president of the College Democrats, expressed disagreement with how the situation was handled but declined to comment further. Sykes placed Edwards on administrative leave Saturday, September 20, 2025, when the Sheriff&rsquo;s Office learned of concerning <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >social media posts allegedly made<\/a> by Edwards and opened an investigation,&rdquo; the post said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The investigation confirmed violations of both the Standards of Conduct and the Speech, Expression, and Social Networking sections of the policy manual,&rdquo; the post added.<\/p>\n<p>The post noted that Blackwood &ldquo;terminated Edwards&rsquo; employment accordingly.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We must maintain the public trust as we go about our mission to protect, serve, and treat everyone with dignity and respect,&rdquo; Blackwood said in the post.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards said the Sheriff&rsquo;s Office should not have reacted the way it did, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/news\/local\/orange-co-deputy-fired-concerning-social-media-posts-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WRAL-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I respect the sheriff&rsquo;s office, but I disagree with how my situation was handled.
