A shooting occured late Saturday night at a waterfront bar<\/a> in Southport, North Carolina, resulting in three deaths and at least eight injuries. The assailant approached the crowd by piloting a small boat close to shore, fired into the crowd, and then fled the scene. About 30 minutes later, the U.S. Coast Guard detained a person matching the suspect’s description near a nearby public boat ramp. Authorities have not yet identified the suspect or disclosed a motive. Multiple agencies, including the State Bureau of Examination and the Coast guard, are actively investigating the incident, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses. The names of the victims and the condition of the injured have not been released.
