Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a 30-year-old Salvadoran national who was wrongfully deported from the United States during former President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, has been transferred to the Moshannon Valley Processing center, a detention facility in central Pennsylvania. Previously held at Virginia’s Farmville Detention Center, the transfer was said by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to provide his legal team better access to him; though, his attorneys expressed doubts, noting that travel to the Pennsylvania facility is challenging, especially for defense members based in Nashville and not easier for those in New York.<\/p>\n

Abrego Garcia’s case is one of the most high-profile deportation cases<\/a> under the Trump governance, which alleged he was a member of the MS-13 gang-a claim he denies and for which he was never charged. His lawyers have criticized the conditions at Moshannon Valley, citing reports of assaults, poor medical care<\/a>, insufficient food, and a recent death of a detainee by hanging. After being returned to the U.S.in June, Abrego Garcia now faces human smuggling charges<\/a>, which his defense team describes as baseless and vindictive. Abrego Garcia has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
