By effectively compelling homeschooling families to parrot political narratives on race, gender, and identity, such mandates confirm the odd ownership many Democrats feel over people&rsquo;s kids,&rdquo; he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Tethering homeschooling families to the schools they fled suggests New Jersey Democrats believe &ldquo;government school administrators, not parents, hold ultimate authority over a child&rsquo;s upbringing.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Democrats are inserting the government as a wedge between children and their families,&rdquo; DeAngelis wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Will Estrada, senior counsel at the Homeschool Legal Defense Association, said to <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2025\/07\/08\/new-jersey-lawmakers-are-considering-2-bills-to-heavily-regulate-homeschooling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reason<\/a> that no states force homeschoolers to align with public school curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the curriculum imposed by a state is often the reason parents opt for homeschooling.<\/p>\n<p>Estrada also said that &ldquo;public schools are there to educate children enrolled in the public school, not to do health and wellness checks on children in the community at large.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">New Jersey Democrats introduce legislation to mandate DEI curriculum in all homeschools. Rather than harassing parents who wish to have more of a say in what their children are taught, New Jersey lawmakers could better serve the public by looking for ways to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/two-states-now-have-universal-school-choice-and-yours-could-be-next\/\" title=\"Two ...s Now Have Universal School Choice \u2014 And Yours Could Be Next\">increase educational freedom<\/a> in the state.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>DeAngelis wrote that freedom is not what the laws are about.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Authoritarian regimes have often sought total control over education, and history reminds us these moves are ominous. In 1938, the Nazi regime banned homeschooling to ensure all children were indoctrinated in state ideology. New Jersey&rsquo;s bill follows a similar path, forcing families to conform or face penalties,&rdquo; he wrote. &ldquo;The real motive here is monopoly protection. The Democratic Party functions as a wholly owned subsidiary of the teachers unions, which view homeschooling as a direct competitor.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At its core, A5825 violates the First Amendment by compelling government speech.
