her criminal suspect father to surrender.<\/p>\n<p>NBC News&rsquo; Matt Lavietes <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/0OwiW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> that &ldquo;Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents held a 5-year-old autistic girl outside her Massachusetts home to pressure her father to surrender to authorities last week, according to the girl&rsquo;s family.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1908242692\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The story quoted the 5-year-old&rsquo;s mother as saying: &ldquo;They took my daughter, she&rsquo;s 5-years-old. She has autism spectrum. &hellip; Give me my daughter back.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The woman, who asked not to be identified, told an NBC affiliate that her husband &ldquo;managed to run back into the parking lot of my house, but they grabbed&rdquo; the 5-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>The story quickly fueled outrage, with <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepJayapal\/status\/1970623865392111841\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">figures<\/a> like Rep. Ilhan Omar <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/greg_price11\/status\/1970668394195059106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">smearing<\/a> ICE as &ldquo;vile and beyond cruel.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>But the narrative peddled by NBC News collapsed under scrutiny. Lavietes was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/ice-held-5-year-old-autistic-girl-massachusetts-pressure-father-surren-rcna233146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">forced to update<\/a> his piece and issue a correction for blatantly lying.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Video shows ICE with 5-year-old girl while agents attempt to arrest her father,&rdquo; an updated post on X <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/greg_price11\/status\/1970668394195059106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reads<\/a>. &ldquo;Correction: An earlier version of this article mischaracterized the activities of ICE agents in the video. The article has been updated.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The updated version explains that the illegal alien refused to comply with law enforcement officials and, in fleeing, abandoned his own daughter in the presence of law enforcement officials. <\/p>\n<p>In other words, the original hostage story was false &mdash; but wasn&rsquo;t corrected before it helped amplify anti-ICE sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>But it&rsquo;s that same anti-ICE sentiment that fueled Wednesday&rsquo;s shooting. <\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/09\/24\/after-gavin-newsom-targeted-ice-on-colbert-shooter-tries-to-murder-ice-agents-in-dallas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, two individuals&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2025\/09\/24\/dhs-issues-statement-targeted-attack-dallas-ice-facility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">were killed<\/a>&nbsp;on Wednesday with a third injured after a gunman opened fire on an ICE transportation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2025\/09\/24\/dhs-issues-statement-targeted-attack-dallas-ice-facility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vehicle<\/a> in Dallas. Investigators&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/dallas-ice-facility-shooting-shooter-down\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;that rounds found near the shooter &mdash; who died of a self<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-newsom-targeted-ice-shooter-tries-to-murder-ice-agents\/\" title=\"After Newsom Targeted ..., Shooter Tries To Murder ...\">-inflicted gunshot wound &#038;mdash<\/a>; were inscribed with anti-ICE messaging.
