Despite this, Democrats, some Republicans, and celebrities framed the suspension as an attack on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/project-veritas-strips-cnn-naked\/\" title=\"Project Veritas Strips CNN Naked\">free speech<\/a>, using terms like &#8220;jawboning&#8221; to describe the political pressure on corporations. Media outlets and politicians suggested Kimmel could take the case to the Supreme Court, and some viewed the controversy as an example of cancel culture and regulatory misuse.<\/p>\n<p>When Sinclair and Nexstar announced they would not air Kimmel&#8217;s show despite Disney&#8217;s support, political figures shifted to threatening these broadcasters. Several Democratic senators accused these companies of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/montana-ag-asks-court-to-reject-tiktok-challenge-to-state-ban\/\" title=\"Montana AG urges court to dismiss TikTok&#039;s challenge to state ban.\">violating free speech rights<\/a> and perhaps <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >breaking federal anti-corruption laws<\/a> for refusing to air Kimmel without an apology. california State senator scott Wiener even called for breaking up Sinclair.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a left-leaning group filed a complaint to try to disbar Carr, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wyoming-woman-gets-21-months-in-prison-for-false-accusation-of-rape-attempt-to-extort-victim\/\" title=\"Wyoming Woman Gets 21 Months In Prison For False Accusation of Rape, Attempt To Extort Victim\">falsely accusing<\/a> him of abusing regulatory authority against Kimmel.The article contends that while Democrats may not currently control all branches of government, they consistently use bureaucratic power to intimidate and silence opposition, with recent threats of investigation reflecting a growing trend of political bullying.<\/p>\n<p>The piece was written by Jordan Boyd, a staff writer at *The Federalist*.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>When broadcasters first committed to kicking <em>Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> off the airwaves over his egregious lies about Charlie Kirk&rsquo;s assassination, leftists everywhere threw <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/09\/18\/the-medias-appeal-to-free-speech-over-jimmy-kimmel-is-fake-and-wont-work-anymore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public tantrums<\/a> accusing Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/hilary-clinton-rips-king-donald-trumps-authoritarian-playbook-over-jimmy-kimmel-furor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">authoritarianism.<\/a> In reality, the true government threat of bullying to broadcasters comes not from the FCC, but from Democrats who have threatened to take action against the media companies refusing to reinstate Kimmel&rsquo;s timeslot.<\/p>\n<p>Private TV station owners are, of course, not obligated under federal law to publicize certain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/immigrant-horror-man-rapes-chokes-to-death-girl-16-in-front-of-her-own-mother\/\" title=\"Immigrant Horror: Man Rapes, Chokes to Death Girl, 16, in Front of Her Own Mother\">content &#038;mdash<\/a>; especially if that content is, at best, a tone-deaf rejection of calls to turn down the temperature, and at worst and most likely, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/09\/22\/sinclair-holds-firm-on-refusal-to-air-jimmy-kimmel-until-he-apologizes-to-charlie-kirks-family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deliberate dishonesty designed to foment more division. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yet Democrats, <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/7319330\/republicans-turning-on-trump-kimmel-cruz-paul-bacon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spineless Republicans<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/09\/22\/entertainment\/kimmel-aniston-streep-hanks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">celebrities<\/a> rushed to defend Kimmel against what they claimed was an <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/09\/18\/if-kimmel-apologist-david-french-cared-about-free-speech-he-wouldnt-have-helped-censor-conservatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;attack on free speech.&rdquo;<\/a> &ldquo;Jawboning,&rdquo; a word used to denote using authority to pressure for a certain outcome, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/09\/18\/nx-s1-5545720\/kimmel-abc-carr-fcc-jawboning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dominated<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/jawboning-and-jimmy-kimmel-free-speech-censorship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corporate<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alisondurkee\/2025\/09\/18\/legal-experts-accuse-trump-administration-of-unconstitutionally-influencing-kimmel-suspension-heres-why\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thedispatch.com\/newsletter\/boilingfrogs\/trump-first-amendment-fcc-free-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">headlines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As if pretending the Trump administration forced broadcasters into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2025-09-22\/bonta-urges-fcc-chair-to-stop-his-campaign-of-censorship-following-kimmel-suspension\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;censoring&rdquo;<\/a> the late night host wasn&rsquo;t enough, Politico even&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2025\/09\/18\/jimmy-kimmel-supreme-court-first-amendment-lawsuit-00570697\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">encouraged<\/a> Kimmel that he had&nbsp;&ldquo;precedent on his side&rdquo;&nbsp;if he wanted to go before the Supreme Court. The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board additionally declared the Kimmel controversy was an example of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/opinion\/fcc-disney-jimmy-kimmel-brendan-carr-media-regulation-197bdf0a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;cancel culture and regulatory abuse.&rdquo;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When Sinclair and Nexstar confirmed this week that, despite Disney&rsquo;s decision to back Kimmel,  they would not air the show on their combined <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/09\/23\/66-abc-affiliates-wont-air-jimmy-kimmel-after-nexstar-holds-firm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">66 ABC affiliate<\/a> stations, however, the tune changed. <\/p>\n<p>Suddenly, the same crowd that shunned Carr for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BulwarkOnline\/status\/1968392506711613526\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noticing<\/a>&nbsp;Kimmel&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/09\/17\/jimmy-kimmel-blatantly-broke-fcc-rules-and-brendan-carr-was-right-to-notice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blatantly violated broadcasting rules<\/a> and the same people who&nbsp;performatively announced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/tv\/2025\/09\/19\/disney-plus-cancellations\/86249954007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cancellation of their Disney Plus subscriptions<\/a> were interested in using any power they could to punish the media companies resisting their pressure campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden, Ed Markey, and Chris Van Hollen, specifically, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warren.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/warren_letter_to_nexstar_sinclair_on_jimmy_kimmel.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vowed<\/a> to put the screws to the broadcasters they claimed are &ldquo;not only complicit in an alarming trampling of free speech rights but also risk running afoul of federal law.&rdquo; In a letter to the Nexstar Media Group chairman, the blue party senators not only accused the media company of &ldquo;eroding First Amendment freedoms,&rdquo; but also of creating &ldquo;the appearance of a possible quid-pro-quo arrangement that could implicate federal anti-corruption laws&rdquo; by exercising its private right not to air certain content. <\/p>\n<p>California State Sen. Scott Weiner went further and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Scott_Wiener\/status\/1970307297999007773\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> he &ldquo;can&rsquo;t wait to break Sinclair up.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>One Democrat-run organization that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/campaign-for-accountability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prides itself on targeting conservatives<\/a> even filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/26106426-brendan-carr-bar-complaint-campaign-for-accountability-9-23-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">complaint<\/a> with the notoriously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/dc-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">partisan D.C. Bar<\/a> in an effort to get Carr disbarred &mdash; a common lawfare tactic weaponized by leftists against their political enemies, primarily those in the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/01\/corrupt-dc-bar-moves-to-disbar-jeff-clark-after-restoring-license-of-russiagate-felon-kevin-clinesmith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump administration.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The filing falsely claimed that Carr, who never took formal action against Kimmel or the networks that platformed him, used &ldquo;his regulatory authority to publicly demand ABC\/Disney terminate late-night host Jimmy Kimmel for his commentary, threatening to investigate broadcasters that air political content with which Mr. Carr disagrees, and inaccurately claiming certain content constitutes news distortion.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Democrats may not control Congress or the White House at this very moment, but there&rsquo;s no doubt that their threats to use the bureaucracy against Americans who hamper their agenda are not empty. Time and time again, leftist administrations and institutions have <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/09\/18\/6-times-leftists-melting-down-over-jimmy-kimmel-were-happy-to-deny-conservatives-free-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">weaponized their authority<\/a> to silence, shut down, or strong-arm their political enemies into submission.  <\/p>\n<p>The latest threat of investigation from Warren and others is no exception.
