According to CNN analyst Harry Enten, Republicans hold a 7-point lead on the economy, a 13-point advantage on immigration, and a 22-point margin regarding crime. This trust gap exists despite a majority of respondents disapproving of President Donald Trump’s job performance and his handling of these issues. Compared to similar polling before the 2022 midterms,Republicans continue to maintain thier lead, with independents also favoring Republicans on these topics. Enten suggests that while Democrats have failed to capitalize on these issues, the economy is highly likely to remain the top concern for voters going into upcoming elections. Notably, 53% of respondents prefer Democratic control of Congress as a check on Trump, slightly outweighing the 42% who favor Republican control. The poll surveyed 2,513 U.S. adults with a margin of error of ±2%.

The latest polling shows Republicans are trusted more than Democrats on three of the top voter issues: the economy, immigration, and crime.

CNN data analyst Harry Enten broke down the numbers from a Washington Post/IPSOS poll published last week.

He highlighted that Republicans hold a 7-point advantage over Democrats when it comes to handling the economy, a 13-point lead on the issue of immigration, and a 22-point margin over Democrats on dealing with crime.

Enten further noted that these numbers are despite respondents in the same survey saying that they disapprove of President Donald Trump’s job performance by a 56 to 43 percent margin.
