SMU and TCU jointly honored Lila Bonner, a 9-year-old Texas girl who tragically died in flash flooding at Camp Mystic on the Fourth of July. Lila’s parents are alumni of Southern Methodist University (SMU) and Texas Christian University (TCU), reflecting the family’s divided loyalties – with her father attending TCU and her mother SMU. The schools commemorated her vibrant spirit and love for animals, which is carried on through her foundation, Lila’s Light, that focuses on animal rescue and promoting kindness. The tribute took place before the last scheduled football game<\/a> between the two longtime rivals. Lila’s family attended the event, expressing their grief and gratitude for the schools’ recognition of their daughter, their “No. 1 super fan.” The joint memorial emphasized unity beyond rivalry to honor Lila’s memory and the impact of her foundation.
