Regaining the base became a topic of bilateral discussion around that time, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/09\/18\/politics\/trump-bagram-base-taliban-afghanistan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report from CNN<\/a> citing sources familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the administration has held limited meetings with the Taliban, such as White House special envoy Adam Boehler&rsquo;s visit last week.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. lost control of Bagram Air Base in 2021 as the Taliban surged to power in Afghanistan. <\/p>\n<p>U.S. military and civil personnel were forced to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3146525\/house-foreign-affairs-afghanistan-withdrawal-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">evacuate the country<\/a> after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/saudi-arabia-riyadh-cant-guarantee-oil-supply-due-to-houthi-attacks\/\" title=\"Saudi Arabia: Riyadh Can&#039;t Guarantee Oil Supply Due to Houthi Attacks\">terrorist group overthrew<\/a> the Ghani government and easily swept through the U.S.-backed Afghan Army.<\/p>\n<p>Trump announced his government&rsquo;s intention to reclaim the air base during a press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. <\/p>\n<p>The president said the base is crucial because it&rsquo;s &ldquo;an hour away from where China makes its nuclear weapons.&rdquo;
