District of Columbia Councilman Robert White has announced his campaign to challenge long-time Delegate eleanor Holmes Norton for her nonvoting seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.White, a three-term at -large councilman<\/a> and former legislative counsel to Norton, cited increasing threats to D.C.’s home rule under the trump governance<\/a> as a key reason for his bid. At 88, Norton faces growing pressure to retire amid concerns about her ability to effectively represent the district. White emphasized the need for fresh leadership, describing the current political climate<\/a> as a critical moment for D.C. other candidates entering the race include Jacque Patterson, Kinney zalesne, and Kymone Freeman. Norton has served for over three decades and currently sits on the House Oversight Commitee.
