Hyundai is proceeding with a $2.7 billion expansion of its mega-plant in Bryan County, Georgia, despite an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid occurring there in early September. The plant, originally part of a larger $7.5 billion investment announced<\/a> in August as part of Hyundai’s $26 billion planned U.S. investment, aims to produce 500,000 electric and hybrid vehicles annually by 2028 and create 3,000 jobs.<\/p>\n

Following the ICE raid, which involved the detention of hundreds of South Korean workers, the South Korean government engaged in diplomatic negotiations with U.S. authorities to secure their release and repatriation.The government is now working with companies to improve the visa system to avoid similar issues<\/a> in the future. The plant began production in October 2024 and is expected to employ 8,500 workers on its nearly 3,000-acre site in Ellabell, georgia. Hyundai confirmed it is committed to its investment plans despite concerns raised by the raid.
