A Texas man, Jeremy Fistel, has been charged with 22 counts, including 11 hate crime charges, for sending threatening messages<\/a> to New York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani. Fistel allegedly left death threats targeting Mamdani’s race and Islamic faith, including threats to blow up his nonexistent car and hateful language referencing terrorism<\/a>. Arrested in Texas, fistel was extradited to New York where he appeared in court. queens District Attorney melinda Katz condemned the threats, emphasizing that hate and bigotry have no place in political discourse. If convicted, Fistel coudl face up to 15 years in prison. Mamdani’s campaign thanked authorities for their response, reaffirming their commitment to combating racism and hate. Following the indictment, Mamdani received increased police security, confirmed by New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
