Erika Kirk said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=e5SHpvRYg_o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">speech<\/a> delivered days after her husband&rsquo;s death. &ldquo;If you&rsquo;re in high school or if you&rsquo;re in college, go find your local Turning Point USA chapter. Join it. Stay involved. He wants you to make a difference, and you can. You can. The movement&rsquo;s not going anywhere, and it will only grow stronger when you join it. If there isn&rsquo;t a chapter, you can&rsquo;t find one, then start one. Other assertions about Kirk&rsquo;s legacy have been more divisive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/jonathan-turley-charlie-kirk-wouldnt-fire-people-who-hated-him-hed-win-them-over\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opinion piece<\/a> written by George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley titled &ldquo;Charlie Kirk wouldn&rsquo;t fire people who hated him, he&rsquo;d win them over&rdquo; sparked a particularly spirited debate on social media.<\/p>\n<p>In his piece, Turley argued that Kirk &ldquo;wanted people to be able to express themselves regardless of how the majority felt about their views&rdquo; and that he would therefore oppose most of the firings of individuals who made light of or justified his death. Turley did qualify his position, however, by stating that people who used &ldquo;their official, academic or corporate positions to espouse hateful messages,&rdquo; or workers whose positions require them to care for the lives of conservatives, could be subject to legitimate termination.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Hate speech in the United States is protected speech,&rdquo; Turley wrote. &ldquo;The crackdown on speech deemed hateful, inflammatory, or intolerant has been the signature of the left, the very thing that Kirk campaigned against.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Vice President JD Vance, a friend of Kirk&rsquo;s, took the opposite position, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/metzgov\/status\/1967655595617686017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">calling on<\/a> citizens to report employees for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cops-under-investigation-after-body-cam-footage-catches-officer-seemingly-laughing-about-woman-killed-by-cruiser\/\" title=\"Police Probed for Officer&#039;s Laughing Response to Woman Fatally Hit by Cruiser\">making callous remarks<\/a> about the activist&rsquo;s death with the aim of getting them fired.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Civil society, Charlie understood this well, is not just something that flows from the government,&rdquo; Vance said while hosting a memorial episode of the Charlie Kirk Show last week. &ldquo;It flows from each and every one of us. It flows from all of us. So when you see someone celebrating Charlie&rsquo;s murder, call them out and, hell, call their employer. We don&rsquo;t believe in political violence, but we do believe in civility, and there is no civility in the celebration of political assassination.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Contra Vance, others have claimed such behavior could be characterized as cancel culture, which Kirk opposed.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It would be deeply ironic if Charlie Kirk&rsquo;s death was used to wipe out his life&rsquo;s work on free speech,&rdquo; liberal commentator Cenk Uygur <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cenkuygur\/status\/1967653621354672476\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> of the movement. &ldquo;I think anyone suggesting we take away people&rsquo;s right to speak, no matter how offensive, would be attacking Kirk&rsquo;s legacy, not supporting it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Vance <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JDVance\/status\/1968387651305714108\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">welcomed<\/a> the debate over Kirk&rsquo;s legacy but urged conservatives to avoid infighting for the time being and to unite in mourning.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;To my friends on the political Right: I understand the feeling that people are putting words into Charlie Kirk&rsquo;s mouth,&rdquo; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-and-kamala-harris-state-limits-on-abortion-particularly-devastating-for-communities-of-color\/\" title=\"Joe Biden and Kamala Harris: State Limits on Abortion &#039;Particularly Deva...&#039; for Communities of Color\">vice president wrote<\/a> on Wednesday. &ldquo;At some level, I agree and share your frustration. (Doug Mills\/The New York Times via AP, Pool)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller took it a step further, citing his last conversation with Kirk, in which Miller said Kirk expressed support for the administration&rsquo;s efforts to take action against left-wing groups for allegedly fomenting political violence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The last message that Charlie sent me was, I think it was just the day before we lost him, which is that we need to have an organized strategy to go after the leftwing organizations that are promoting violence in this country,&rdquo; Miller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VDRAdDPKZe8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> on Monday. &ldquo;I will write those words onto my heart, and I will carry them out.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3808091\/trump-liberal-group-investigation-left-wing-groups-charlie-kirk-assassination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">details<\/a> on how the Trump administration will implement this strategy are scant, Vance mentioned the Ford Foundation and the Soros family&rsquo;s philanthropic network, major players in left-of-center financing,&nbsp;by name as organizations in the government&rsquo;s sights. President Donald Trump has indicated that investigations into groups are &ldquo;already&rdquo; underway, with his chief of staff stating that these operations were already running before Kirk&rsquo;s assassination.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Israel, a nation which Kirk was a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/charliekirk11\/status\/1925223825496752333?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1925223825496752333%7Ctwgr%5Ea3a52c371e8db5f794bcad74899ececef66a760f%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thedailybeast.com%2Fcharlie-kirks-pastor-hammers-candace-owens-for-spreading-assassination-conspiracy-theories%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vocal supporter<\/a> of, has also emerged as a flashpoint following his death.<\/p>\n<p>Tucker Carlson, for instance, has made waves by claiming that Kirk had <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShadowofEzra\/status\/1968112360138109124\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confided in him<\/a> and others that he was growing resentful of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for &ldquo;using the United States&rdquo; to advance his interests at the expense of Americans. According to Carlson, Kirk&rsquo;s donors &ldquo;tormented him until the day he died&rdquo; after the former Fox News host linked Jeffery Epstein to Mossad and lamented how difficult it is for public figures to criticize the Israeli government during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=k8i2zgViDPg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">speech <\/a>at a Turning Point USA event in July.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tedcruz\/status\/1968313257472466949\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pushed back<\/a> against these claims, stating that he &ldquo;knew Charlie well [and] indeed the very last conversation we had was how deeply concerned he was about the rising, toxic wave of antisemitism on the right.&rdquo; Cruz&rsquo;s rebuttal didn&rsquo;t touch on Carlson&rsquo;s claims of frustration with Netanyahu, which former congressman Matt Gaetz <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mattgaetz\/status\/1968158805742776548\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> are largely true based on his relationship with Kirk.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu himself has been <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/krystalball\/status\/1966332140779442677?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1966332140779442677%7Ctwgr%5Ea11f6e841681bbfede8554c873d303642abbbfbf%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mediaite.com%2Fpolitics%2Fnetanyahu-roasted-for-blaming-charlie-kirk-shooting-on-radical-islamist-union-with-ultra-progressives%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accused<\/a> of hijacking Kirk&rsquo;s legacy to serve his own ends, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/netanyahu-roasted-for-blaming-charlie-kirk-shooting-on-radical-islamist-union-with-ultra-progressives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blaming <\/a>Kirk&rsquo;s death on the union between &ldquo;radical Islamist&rdquo; groups and &ldquo;ultra progressives.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Tucker Carlson speaks before Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally at Madison Square Garden, Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, in New York. (AP Photo\/Alex Brandon)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A third front has opened in the war over Kirk&rsquo;s legacy concerning his religion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kirk, an outspoken and devout protestant Christian, was supposedly considering Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy around the time of his death, in the telling of some online. These claims, however, lack hard evidence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Candace Owens, a longtime friend of Kirk who has recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3479953\/candace-owens-brigitte-macron-man-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">veered <\/a>into promoting conspiracies, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CatholicArena\/status\/1967731010881351920\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> that he was &ldquo;definitely on the brink&rdquo; of &ldquo;changing some of his perspectives&rdquo; and indicated that he was &ldquo;praying the Rosary&rdquo; and &ldquo;going to Mass.&rdquo; Some large Catholic influencers <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BreeSolstad\/status\/1967741029572063367\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amplified<\/a> her claims.<\/p>\n<p>Kirk had been <a href=\"https:\/\/catholicvote.org\/charlie-kirk-showed-deep-respect-toward-catholic-faith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">photographed <\/a>appearing at Catholic Masses, though this doesn&rsquo;t necessarily mean he was inquiring into the faith.<\/p>\n<p>Owens, a vocal critic of Israel, has also claimed that pro-Israel billionaire Bill Ackman staged an &ldquo;intervention&rdquo; to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/16\/media\/bill-ackman-denies-candace-owens-claim-he-staged-charlie-kirk-intervention-over-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blackmail<\/a> Kirk into increasing his support for Israel, a claim Ackman <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/17\/business\/bill-ackman-shares-charlie-kirk-texts-to-dispel-israel-blackmail-claims-by-candace-owens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">countered<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >producing recent cordial text messages<\/a> between him and Kirk.<\/p>\n<p>Rob McCoy, Kirk&rsquo;s pastor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/charlie-kirks-pastor-hammers-candace-owens-for-spreading-assassination-conspiracy-theories\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued<\/a> a statement denouncing Owens&rsquo;s recent actions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Charlie Kirk was a friend to Candace and never publicly spoke poorly of her, though he disagreed with her,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;He never operated nor entertained gossip or innuendo concerning Candace. My only comment I offer regarding Candace is this: I only wish at this tragic time of mourning, she would be the friend to Charlie that he was to her. He would never have treated Candace or her family in such a way had God forbid this tragedy been hers.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Carlson, meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/syd_bee3\/status\/1968131764511207807\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stated<\/a> that Kirk was &ldquo;very interested in Orthodoxy.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;So apparently Kirk, a very vocal Evangelical, was considering Catholicism and Orthodoxy before his death?&rdquo; pro-Israel journalist Corey Walker <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CoreyWriting\/status\/1968324772745580940\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> of the dynamic. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s really depressing that Tucker and Candace are clearly using his death for professional leverage.
