The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed lawsuits against the states of Maine and Oregon for failing to provide requested voter registration lists, alleging violations of federal laws intended to ensure election integrity. The DOJ claims both states have refused to turn over data about ineligible voters and, in Oregon’s case, have failed to explain how they maintain accurate voter rolls<\/a>. This action is part of a broader effort, with similar requests made to at least 26 states, to confirm compliance with federal voting laws and to prevent voter fraud.<\/p>\n

assistant Attorney General Harmeet dhillon emphasized that states must comply fully with federal voting regulations to guarantee equal access to ballots in federal elections. The secretaries of state in Maine and Oregon criticized the lawsuits, defending their states’ election records and privacy protections. Oregon’s Secretary Tobias Read threatened legal action against the federal government, accusing it of politically motivated interference<\/a>.
