The European Union condemned a recent Russian drone incursion into Romanian airspace, calling it a “reckless escalation.” On Saturday, the Romanian military scrambled two F-16 fighter jets after detecting a Russian drone heading toward ukraine that had entered Romanian airspace and circled a remote area for nearly an hour. Although the pilots were authorized to shoot down the drone, they chose not to, allowing it to continue toward Ukraine. Romania has summoned the Russian ambassador to address the incident. EU officials, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU foreign policy chief<\/a> Kaja Kallas, strongly criticized the violation as a serious threat to regional security and pledged solidarity with Romania. This marks the second such incident affecting NATO members this week, following earlier Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace. Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the violations “could’ve been a mistake” but expressed concern over the ongoing situation amidst stalled peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
