According to U.S. treasury Department data, total tariff collections for 2025 have surpassed $183.6 billion. This amount shows a steady increase over previous months and suggests that tariff revenues may soon exceed those of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-irreversible-consequences-of-school-closures\/\" title=\"The Irreversible Consequences of School Closures\">entire previous year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that TrumpS introduction of &#8220;reciprocal tariffs&#8221; earlier in the year exceeded his legal authority. This ruling will take effect after October 14, giving the administration time to appeal to the Supreme Court. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that if the supreme Court upholds the ruling, the goverment might have to refund about half of the tariffs collected, perhaps <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >causing meaningful financial disruption<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The White House and Attorney General Pam Bondi defended the tariffs, arguing that Trump lawfully exercised his powers to protect national and economic security. earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Aug. 29 decision will only enter into effect after Oct. 14, allowing the Trump administration time to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/07\/trump-trade-supreme-court-refunds-bessent.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from CNBC.<\/p>\n<p>Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview that the agency would have to issue refunds on the tariffs if the Supreme Court rules against the levies.<\/p>\n<p>That means the agency &ldquo;would have to give a refund on about half the tariffs, which would be terrible for the Treasury.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Since the Supreme Court may not issue a ruling on the policies until next summer, Bessent warned that &ldquo;delaying a ruling until June 2026 could result in a scenario in which $750 billion-$1 trillion in tariffs have already been collected, and unwinding them could cause significant disruption.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The White House said in a statement after the ruling that Trump was operating within his lawful authority when announcing the tariffs, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/08\/29\/business\/trump-tariffs-appeals-court-ruling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from CNN.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;President Trump lawfully exercised the tariff powers granted to him by Congress to defend our national and economic security from foreign threats,&rdquo;
