Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison for his alleged 2022 coup attempt following Brazil’s presidential election. A panel of the Brazilian Supreme Court justices convicted him on five counts related to attempting to undermine democratic institutions<\/a> and the legitimate transfer of power. Bolsonaro is the first former brazilian president to be convicted of such charges and has been banned from running for political office until 2030.
