The article from the Washington Examiner discusses the recent release of files by the House Oversight Committee related to the late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Justice department reporter Kaelan Deese described the release as a “double win” for Republicans, as the documents do not appear to contain any major new evidence or “smoking gun<\/a>” that might lead to indictments of additional parties. Among the released materials was Epstein’s 50th birthday book<\/a>,which includes various personal notes,one of which is signed by President Donald Trump,even though Trump denies that he wrote it.The released files follow a previous batch of 33,000 pages published the week before. The committee, led by Republicans, is seen as making a good faith effort by releasing the documents transparently, but the revelations so far have not uncovered anything substantially new.Additionally, Trump is suing Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp for reporting on one of the birthday book notes prior to its official release.
