A U.S.District Judge,Edward Chen,has blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Venezuelan immigrants. Judge Chen ruled that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s decision to end TPS protections lacked proper analysis and review. TPS allows individuals from countries experiencing humanitarian crises to stay and work legally in the U.S. Even though the Supreme Court had previously allowed Noem’s actions to stand temporarily, Chen steadfast his ruling did not conflict with that decision and made his order effective immediately in light of the meaningful impact on affected immigrants. A DHS spokesperson criticized the TPS program as being exploited and stated the department will continue to seek legal options to end it. This ruling represents a setback for President Trump’s stricter immigration policies<\/a> during his third term.
