We want to fill them up.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We want deliver on this mission. The Baker County site was actually a pre-existing state jail that was no longer in use. So it&rsquo;s already retrofitted out to hold a lot of people. We&rsquo;ll fill it up quickly, and we&rsquo;ll put it to good use,&rdquo; Uthmeier said.<\/p>\n<p>The new facility likely won&rsquo;t face the same backlash Alligator Alcatraz did, Uthmeier said.<\/p>\n<p>In August, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams tried to stop operations at Alligator Alcatraz, citing environmental concerns from environmentalists and the Miccosukee Tribe.<\/p>\n<p>Williams ordered that the facility should not expand, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-vows-fight-federal-judge-rules-alligator-alcatraz-expansion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">should not accept any more detainees<\/a>, and that its present inmates should be transferred to other facilities, among other restrictive instructions.<\/p>\n<p>But in Atlanta on Thursday, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/appeals-court-overturns-closure-alligator-alcatraz-best-part-humiliated-angry-hippies-lawyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paused Williams&rsquo; order<\/a> in a 2-1 decision.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">&#128680;&#128680;&#128680;HUGE win for Trump Administration via Florida with 11th Cir. staying injunction ordering shut down of Alligator Alcatraz. 1\/ <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Odcd97wc64\">pic.twitter.com\/Odcd97wc64<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Margot Cleveland (@ProfMJCleveland) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ProfMJCleveland\/status\/1963686415801176329?\">September 4, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It is entirely unclear to us, moreover, how the district court concluded that it could order the proactive dismantling of the Facility by way of a mandatory preliminary injunction,&rdquo; wrote Judge Barbara Lagoa, whom DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/eog\/news\/press\/2019\/governor-ron-desantis-appoints-barbara-lagoa-florida-supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appointed<\/a> to the Florida Supreme Court in 2019, according to Politico.<\/p>\n<p>But DeSantis had anticipated the appeals court victory, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-vows-fight-federal-judge-rules-alligator-alcatraz-expansion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vowing in August<\/a> to fight and overcome Williams&rsquo; order.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[Alligator Alcatraz] was huge to help expand the mission and fulfill the mission for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-declares-lost-india-russia-deepest-darkest-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Trump<\/a> to increase deportations,&rdquo; DeSantis told Hannity on Thursday. &ldquo;We did have a leftist judge, and the media said, &lsquo;Oh, it&rsquo;s closed; they&rsquo;re done,&rsquo; and I said, first of all, it never closed, we have illegals there, the deportations were continuing.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;But I said the mission will continue; we&rsquo;re going to win.
