The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a lawsuit against the City of Boston and Mayor Michelle Wu over the city’s sanctuary policies, which the DOJ claims obstruct federal immigration enforcement. The DOJ alleges that Boston’s sanctuary laws,including the Boston Trust Act,prevent local law enforcement<\/a> from cooperating with immigration authorities,resulting in the release of undocumented immigrants charged with serious crimes such as homicide,assault,larceny,and drug offenses. Attorney General Pam Bondi criticized Boston as one of the “worst sanctuary offenders” in the U.S.and vowed that the DOJ would protect citizens if local authorities would not. In response, Mayor Wu condemned the lawsuit as an unconstitutional attack and part of the Trump administration’s authoritarian agenda.
