Ansari referred to undocumented immigrants detained at an immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Arizona as her &#8220;constituents,&#8221; which sparked controversy. The article disputes her definition, arguing that &#8220;constituent&#8221; traditionally means a voter or someone eligible to vote in her district. Yassamin Ansari of Arizona for publicly admitting that she 1) doesn&rsquo;t know what the word &ldquo;constituent&rdquo; means in the sense of electoral politics and 2) does not know how to use Google.<\/p>\n<p>You&rsquo;d think she&rsquo;d be embarrassed to admit these things. After all, I don&rsquo;t think I was even in middle school &mdash; much less Congress &mdash; before I knew what it meant. Similarly, everyone save for maybe a few <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Neil-Postman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Neil Postman<\/a>-worshipping luddites knows how to use Google.<\/p>\n<p>But apparently, Ansari doesn&rsquo;t know either &mdash; and not only that, she doesn&rsquo;t &ldquo;give a s***&rdquo; about what anybody thinks about it when asked on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/meet-new-maga-generation-taking-capitol-hill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Capitol Hill<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The trail of offending remarks began after Rep. Ansari visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/agitators-set-guillotine-outside-ice-building-amid-clash-law-enforcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Immigration and Customs Enforcement&rsquo;s<\/a> Eloy Detention Center in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/arizona-lawmaker-pens-letter-trump-demanding-federal-investigation-voting-systems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona<\/a>, where she talked about how she had &ldquo;many constituents who are trapped inside Eloy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>I suppose we can spot her the loose definition of &ldquo;trapped,&rdquo; although &ldquo;detained&rdquo; is probably a better way of putting it when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/its-happening-president-trump-issues-warning-swing-states-that-found-massive-voter-fraud-which-is-all-of-them-cannot-legally-certify-these-votes\/\" title=\"IT\u2019S HAPPENING: President Trump Issues Warning \u2013 Swing States that Found MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD, which is all of them, CANNOT LEGALLY CERTIFY these votes\">illegal immigrants<\/a> or deportable noncitizens are in ICE custody. Speaking Thursday during a media briefing on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/maam-long-past-time-ex-capitol-police-chief-hits-pelosi-3-damning-memories-criticized-trump-dc-national-guard-use\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Capitol<\/a> Hill, conservative outlet the Daily Caller asked if this included those without legal status.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;So, I didn&rsquo;t realize this was such a controversy until the right<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >-wing media started attacking<\/a> me for using the word,&rdquo; Ansari told reporters, then proceeded to make the issue worse.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;So, I googled the word &lsquo;constituent.&rsquo; The definition of constituent is somebody who is part of a community,&rdquo; she continued.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It doesn&rsquo;t matter what their legal status is; if somebody is an asylum seeker, if somebody has a heart, if somebody is a U.S. citizen, if somebody lives in the community, I represent them.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Constituent does not mean voter,&rdquo; Ansari continued.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t care if these &mdash; if none of these individuals can vote for me. But, when you take a look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mexico-sues-google-gulf-america-map-label\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Googernet<\/a>, or whatever the kids are calling it these days, it turns out she doesn&rsquo;t know how to use that, either:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The first thing that you&rsquo;ll notice is that &ldquo;part of a community&rdquo; is not one of the definitions of the word. One can either be part of a whole or be a voting member of an organization and have the power to appoint or elect (if it&rsquo;s being used as an adjective) or be a member of an area which elects a representative to a legislative body or a component part of something (noun).<\/p>\n<p>In this case, we know what it means by context.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, &ldquo;constituent&rdquo; clearly means &ldquo;voter,&rdquo; not just a component part of the human race that may have resided in her district illegally.
