This approach will keep Texans safe while keeping our economy moving.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Troopers and inspectors will now review English proficiency for all commercial license operators on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/legal-hurdles-texas-will-face-introducing-ten-commandments-prayer-back-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas<\/a> highways.<\/p>\n<p>The reviews are intended to confirm that drivers can communicate well enough to follow laws and avoid deadly mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott also directed DPS to stop issuing intrastate CDLs to drivers who cannot speak English sufficiently to interact with personnel.<\/p>\n<p>The move follows President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-relocate-space-command-headquarters-reversing-biden-decision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump&rsquo;s<\/a> April <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/04\/enforcing-commonsense-rules-of-the-road-for-americas-truck-drivers\/#:~:text=Proficiency%20in%20English%2C%20which%20I,roadways%20have%20become%20less%20safe.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive order<\/a> directing full enforcement of English proficiency rules for commercial drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Texas has taken enforcement action against roughly 445 commercial drivers for violations.<\/p>\n<p>Of those, about 28 held Texas licenses. Roughly 336 were licensed in Mexico. The rest were licensed in other states or countries, according to the governor&rsquo;s office.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott&rsquo;s order came weeks after a tragic crash in Florida highlighted the deadly consequences of placing unqualified drivers on the road.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 12, 28-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/petition-supporting-illegal-charged-u-turn-deaths-3-hits-sickening-milestone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harjinder Singh<\/a>, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, attempted an illegal U-turn on Florida&rsquo;s Turnpike.<\/p>\n<p>His semi-truck blocked all northbound lanes, and a minivan slammed into the trailer.
