Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, has officially announced her campaign for reelection<\/a>. Mayes emphasized her commitment too creating a more just and affordable Arizona. Since taking office<\/a>, she has been a prominent figure among Democratic attorneys general opposing several Trump administration policies through lawsuits, including challenges to tariffs, immigration restrictions, and attempts to end birthright citizenship<\/a>. Mayes won her previous election in 2022 by an extremely narrow margin of just 280 votes, one of the closest in Arizona’s history. Notably, she switched from the Republican to the Democratic Party in 2019, citing dissatisfaction<\/a> with the GOP’s direction under former President Trump. For the upcoming 2026 election, Mayes is the only Democrat running in the primary, while the Republican primary is shaping up to be a contest between Senate President Warren Petersen and Air Force veteran Rodney Glassman.
