In February 2019, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada <a href=\"https:\/\/www.docdroid.net\/nm1XeFs\/bowden-decision-feb-27-2019.pdf\">ordered<\/a> that the girl receive testosterone injections without obtaining parental consent. \u201cThe court also declared that if either of her parents referred to her using female pronouns or addressed her by her birth name, they would be considered guilty of family violence,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/03\/01\/canadian-court-rules-parents-cant-stop-14-year-old-taking-trans-hormones\/\">The Federalist<\/a> noted.<\/p>\n<p>When she was in seventh grade, the girl\u2019s school urged the girl to see psychologist Dr. Wallace Wong, who recommended the girl should begin taking cross-sex hormones at 13. Hoogland cited his daughter\u2019s alleged history of mental health issues, and refused to give permission. Doctors at BC Children\u2019s Hospital decided the girl should receive testosterone injections.<\/p>\n<p>Hoogland, disturbed by the possible effects of the hormone therapy, objected, but one of the doctors informed him that the girl\u2019s consent was enough for her to begin receiving the hormones. Hoogland responded by seeking an injunction to stop the treatment, but Justice Gregory Bowdenruled in February 2019 that the girl was \u201cexclusively entitled to consent to medical treatment for gender dysphoria,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.docdroid.net\/nm1XeFs\/bowden-decision-feb-27-2019.pdf\">adding, <\/a>\u201cAttempting to persuade (the girl) to abandon treatment for gender dysphoria; addressing (the girl) by his birth name; referring to (the girl) as a girl or with female pronouns whether to him directly or to third parties; shall be considered to be family violence under s. 38 of the <em>Family Law Act<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hoogland reacted, \u201cThe government has taken over my parental rights. They\u2019re using (the girl) like she\u2019s a guinea pig in an experiment \u2026 Is BC Children\u2019s Hospital going to be there in 5 years when she rejects [her male identity]? No they\u2019re not. They don\u2019t care. They want numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Federalist <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/01\/14\/canadian-appeals-court-rules-father-cant-stop-teen-daughter-from-taking-male-hormones\/\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9.7752808988764\">\n<p><em>The evening of Bowden\u2019s decision, Clark granted an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/03\/01\/canadian-court-rules-parents-cant-stop-14-year-old-taking-trans-hormones\/\">interview<\/a>&nbsp;to The Federalist in which he referred to his daughter as a girl, \u201cbecause she is a girl. Her DNA will not change through all these experiments that they do.\u201d Citing this statement \u2014 among other verbal \u201cexpressions of rejection of [Maxine\u2019s] gender identity\u201d \u2014 the BC Supreme Court convicted Clark of \u201cfamily violence\u201d in April 2019. Judge Francesca Marzari even issued an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/04\/29\/authorities-arrest-canadian-father-refers-trans-child-real-sex\/\">order<\/a>&nbsp;authorizing Clark\u2019s arrest \u201cwithout warrant\u201d by any police officer who might catch him referring to his daughter \u201cas a girl or with female pronouns.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In January 2020, Hoogland lost his legal appeal to halt the process his daughter was undergoing; the BC Court of Appeal ruled Hoogland\u2019s comments did not constitute family violence but \u201cin general,\u201d Hoogland must \u201cacknowledge and refer to (the girl) as male,\u201d and barred him from speaking to the media.<\/p>\n<p>Hoogland <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/02\/21\/heartbroken-dad-of-trans-teen-breaks-gag-to-beg-for-end-of-state-sponsored-child-abuse\/\">told<\/a> The Federalist in February 2020, \u201cI had a perfectly healthy child a year ago, and that perfectly healthy child has been altered and destroyed for absolutely no good reason. She can never go back to being a girl in the healthy body that she should have had. She\u2019s going to forever have a lower voice. She\u2019ll forever have to shave because of facial hair. She won\u2019t be able to have children\u2026 Sometimes I just want to scream so that other parents and people will\u2026 jump in, understand what\u2019s going on. There\u2019s a child\u2014and not only mine, but in my case, my child out there having her life ruined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hoogland conducted two video interviews with Canadian YouTube commentators; the first was removed, but the second, with Laura-Lynn Thompson, was not initially yanked because Thompson refused to do so. Justice Michael Tammen of the British Columbia Supreme Court ordered that Thompson\u2019s interview be pulled; when Thompson balked, police were sent to her home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe judge (Tammen) warned the dad that if there are any further breaches of the bans and court orders, the lawyers for the teen might come back to court and seek to have him cited for contempt of court and face serious consequences,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/vancouversun.com\/news\/local-news\/judge-orders-father-of-transgender-teen-not-to-give-further-interviews\">The Vancouver Sun<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>On March 4, 2021, Tammen issued a warrant for Hoogland\u2019s arrest on the charge of contempt. Before he turned himself in, Hoogland told <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/rob-hoogland-canada-prisoner-of-conscience\">The Post-Millennial<\/a>: \u201cPerhaps saving children is a dream . . . but I don\u2019t think so! As I was driving I saw children walking their dogs, I saw children playing together, and I saw a generation that needs their parents more than ever! I visited all my family homes\u2026 places where I grew up as a child. I remembered how much I loved my own parents and how much I needed their protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hoogland created a <a href=\"https:\/\/gogetfunding.com\/bc-father-fighting-medical-transitioning-of-children\/\">GoFundMe page<\/a> which stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p><em>The far left issued an arrest warrant on Thursday, March 04! I will be turning myself in on March 16! I am fighting the far left based on a civil disobedience defense! I am now back in court for a five-day criminal trial that will last at least five days . . . From April 12-16. That trial that could land me in jail for up to five years for speaking truth about state sponsored child abuse. FYI . . . I am blocked from sharing any videos at this time that oppose the sterilization of children! Please watch the video I was finally able to post!
