White House “border czar” Tom Homan<\/a> claimed that if President Donald Trump<\/a> decides to send in federal forces into New Orleans<\/a>, Chicago<\/a>, or any other sanctuary cities<\/a>, the deployment will be related to cracking down on illegal immigration.<\/p>\n

“Yes, it’s gonna be immigration enforcement,” Homan confirmed when asked by the Washington Examiner<\/em> on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

“The president said weeks ago, I said weeks ago, that with sanctuary cities, how are we going to address it? We’re going to flood the zone,” Homan said. “We got 10,000 more agents coming on. We’re going to flood this up.” <\/p>\n
Homans’ comments to the Washington Examiner<\/em> follow the president’s earlier remarks to reporters <\/span>that Chicago and New Orleans were the next likely cities he would consider sending the National Guard to.<\/p>\n
Democratic mayors lead both cities, but New Orleans represents the first time that Trump has publicly considered sending forces to a Republican-led state since he took over Washington.<\/p>\n
Trump has repeatedly branded Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson incompetent in his ongoing feud with Illinois leaders, including Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL). He also recently blocked New Orleans<\/a> Mayor LaToya Cantrell from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s funding procurement process after Cantrell was indicted on corruption charges related to a cover-up of a romantic relationship with a city police officer.<\/p>\n
Homan claimed that the White House’s attempts to crack down on crime and illegal immigration will keep the U.S. safe from public safety threats. <\/p>\n
“We’re going to send the boots on the ground to the places that we know there’s a problem,” Homan said. “Address the biggest problems first, and that’s your biggest cities are sanctuary cities, whether it’s New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle.” <\/p>\n

The border czar declined to say when exactly forces will deploy to Chicago and other sanctuary cities, but operations are being planned. “I don’t want to get too specific,” he said. “But it’s coming.” <\/p>\n
Homan implored Mayor Johnson to “get out of the way” if he didn’t work with federal forces. Johnson signed a sweeping preemptive executive order<\/a> over the weekend designed to resist any federal takeover of the Windy City.<\/p>\n
Vice President JD Vance <\/a>also declined to give a more detailed timeline of when forces could be sent to Chicago during his visit to Minneapolis’s Annunciation Church<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
“There are no immediate plans, but the president has said he has the legal authority to protect American citizens, whether that’s in Chicago or Washington, D.C.,” said Vance. <\/p>\n
“Obviously, as the president has said, we want the governor to be a partner here,” he continued. “We would love it, Democrat or Republican, if we had governors who were willing to actually be partners in cutting down crime. And our country, unfortunately, looks like that’s not what we have in JB Pritzker.” <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
