The article reports that the Trump administration has filed an appeal against a recent federal court ruling<\/a> which persistent that the deployment of National Guard troops in Los Angeles violated the Posse Comitatus Act. This 1878 law restricts the use of federal troops for domestic law enforcement purposes. The lawsuit, brought by California Governor Gavin Newsom and other state officials, challenges the federalization and deployment of troops to Los Angeles in June to respond to civil unrest. U.S. District Judge Charles breyer ruled that the troops unlawfully acted in a policing capacity, prohibiting them from engaging in activities such as arrests and crowd control. The judge delayed enforcement of this ruling to allow the administration to appeal.The Trump administration contends that the troops were onyl protecting federal property and personnel, not enforcing laws, but the court found these arguments unpersuasive.This appeal represents the second time the administration has taken this matter to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Meanwhile, Governor Newsom has requested a preliminary injunction to prevent the federal government from controlling additional California National Guard troops amid ongoing litigation.
