Belgium has announced it will recognize a Palestinian state once certain conditions are met and after the current war between Israel and Hamas concludes. Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Pr\u00e9 vot stated that Belgium will follow the lead of several European countries but will delay formal recognition until Hamas is removed from power and all hostages are released.In response to the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis<\/a>,Belgium also introduced 12 new sanctions targeting Israel and Hamas,including restrictions on interactions with Israeli settlements and declaring two Israeli ministers persona non grata. Belgium intends to support EU measures to suspend cooperation with Israel in areas such as research and technical collaboration. While condemning Hamas and antisemitism, Belgium emphasized pressure on Israel to comply with international and humanitarian law. This move aligns Belgium with other European nations like France, the UK, Ireland, Norway, and Spain, which have recently taken similar steps in recognizing palestine.
