A federal judge<\/a> has ruled that the Trump administration’s attempt to remove Michael Abramowitz as director of Voice of America (VOA) was unlawful. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth stated that Abramowitz cannot be dismissed without approval from the International Broadcasting Advisory Board, whose members were dismissed by President Trump in January.The ruling came after Abramowitz sued Kari Lake, the Trump-appointed official leading efforts to overhaul the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees VOA. Lake has tried to fire numerous USAGM employees, accusing the agency of partisanship and corruption. Judge Lamberth ordered Abramowitz’s reinstatement and indicated that the President must reappoint members to the board to have a valid mechanism for removal. In a related decision<\/a>, the judge required Lake to answer questions under oath concerning allegations that she violated rules against dismantling VOA. Lake criticized the judge’s actions, accusing him of political bias.
