the unidentified man said as he pointed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3783127\/trump-us-honored-host-chinese-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">White House<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/3760454\/indiana-woman-charged-with-making-death-threats-against-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Secret Service<\/a> spokesperson said that at 6:15 p.m., they detained an individual for &ldquo;igniting an object&rdquo; in the public park. They turned him over to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3776858\/interior-department-deputizes-border-agents-to-national-park-sites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Park Police<\/a>, as it is their jurisdiction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> contacted the Park Police for comment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Park Police told <em>The Hill <\/em>it detained an individual for violating 36 CFR &sect; 2.13 (a)(1), which prohibits lighting a fire in a public park.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The incident happened just hours after Trump signed an executive order that created stricter penalties for flag-burning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 1989, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3782789\/social-security-admin-whistleblower-complaint-of-doge-related-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Supreme Court<\/a> ruled in a 5-4 decision that burning flags is a protected form of speech under the First Amendment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;My Administration will act to restore respect and sanctity to the American Flag and prosecute those who incite violence or otherwise violate our laws while desecrating this symbol of our country, to the fullest extent permissible under any available authority,&rdquo; Trump&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/08\/prosecuting-burning-of-the-american-flag\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">executive order<\/a> reads.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The order directs Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3782992\/university-of-michigan-medical-center-drop-transgender-services-minors-trump-pressure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pam Bondi<\/a> to &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/if-burning-the-american-flag-is-free-speech-why-is-a-man-in-prison-for-burning-a-pride-flag\/\" title=\"If ... the American Flag Is ..., Why Is a ... in Prison for ... a Pride Flag?\">vigorously prosecute&#038;rdquo<\/a>;
