The Justice Department reportedly offered him a plea deal involving deportation to Costa Rica,but he declined and is currently challenging his detention through legal means. Democratic lawmakers had initially supported his return but distanced themselves after his alleged criminal ties emerged. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, have argued that Abrego Garcia was unlawfully removed from the U.S. by the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>Van Hollen even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/devastating-plaque-installed-van-hollens-senate-office-trip-el-salvador\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">traveled<\/a> to El Salvador in April to meet with Abrego Garcia and call for his return.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat lawmakers&rsquo; demands for the illegal alien&rsquo;s return became more muted when evidence surfaced that he is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dhs-reveals-disturbing-new-discovery-kilmar-abrego-garcias-past-country-safer-gone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MS-13 member<\/a>, engaged in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dems-newest-folk-hero-linked-human-smuggler-will-still-defend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">human trafficking<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/kilmar-abrego-garcias-wife-falls-silent-interviewer-brings-protection-order-filed-husband\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">battered his wife<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">In 2019, the Prince Georges County Police Gang Unit validated Abrego Garcia as a member of MS-13. When he was arrested, he was found with rolls of cash and drugs and was with two other members of MS-13. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZrIF6JJXMJ\">pic.twitter.com\/ZrIF6JJXMJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Homeland Security (@DHSgov) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DHSgov\/status\/1959968808438825321?\">August 25, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Sandoval-Moshenberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/08\/23\/politics\/kilmar-abrego-garcia-uganda-deport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> CNN regarding his client&rsquo;s deportation to Uganda, &ldquo;There is a perfectly reasonable option available, Costa Rica, where his family can visit him easily, but instead they are attempting to send him halfway across the world.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department reportedly offered Abrego Garcia a deal last week to plead guilty to human trafficking charges and serve any sentence the judge imposes in exchange for being deported to Costa Rica, but he turned the proposal down.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, his attorneys filed a lawsuit challenging his detention, which keeps the detainee in the U.S. until at least Wednesday afternoon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/08\/25\/kilmar-abrego-garcia-fights-imminent-deportation-to-uganda-00522978\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. has given Abrego Garcia options and his day in court starting in 2019, but he has chosen to stay in the U.S. and break our nation&rsquo;s laws.<\/p>\n<p>So good riddance.
