The article reports that Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) has accused former President Donald Trump of using mortgage fraud allegations<\/a> as a new tactic against his political opponents. Schiff faces a Department of Justice investigation led by Trump’s special attorney,Ed Martin,over claims that Schiff falsely designated multiple properties as his primary residence to secure favorable loan terms<\/a>. Schiff denies the accusations and has established a legal defense fund in planning for a legal battle. In a recent NBC interview, Schiff claimed the investigation was politically motivated and orchestrated by Trump and his allies to target critics. Bill pulte of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, who referred the case to the DOJ, responded by condemning fraud regardless of the perpetrator. The DOJ is also investigating other officials, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and Federal Reserve Governor lisa Cook, the latter of whom Trump has threatened to fire amid similar mortgage fraud allegations.
