Epstein was charged with sex trafficking before his death in 2019, and Maxwell was convicted in 2021. The DOJ sought to disclose transcripts from Epstein&#8217;s and Maxwell&#8217;s cases,as well as earlier investigations from 2005 and 2007,following public pressure and directives from former president Donald Trump. However, U.S. District Judge Richard Berman ruled against releasing the Epstein grand jury transcripts, citing the vast amount of examination material already available to the public (around 100,000 pages), compared to the limited content of the grand jury transcripts (approximately 70 pages). He also expressed concerns over victims&#8217; safety and privacy, finding no compelling reason to breach grand jury secrecy. Similar rejections were made earlier by judges appointed by Democratic presidents in related cases.
