A Michigan Democrat has filed an ethics complaint against Republican Representative John James regarding a recent campaign event<\/a>. Joel Rutherford,former chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party’s 10th Congressional District,alleges that James improperly used a House staffer and congressional resources,including printed signs,during a school-supply giveaway that promoted James’s gubernatorial campaign. The complaint, submitted to the House ethics Committee, accuses James of abusing taxpayer funds and leveraging his congressional position to advance his private political goals. James, who is running for Michigan governor in 2026, faces criticism for not separating official congressional duties<\/a> from campaign activities, which is prohibited under House rules.
