Although McConnell has not endorsed a successor, establishment Republican donors aligned with him and party leadership have heavily funded efforts to block Nate Morris, a Republican candidate who positions himself as a MAGA outsider and opposes McConnell’s legacy.

A group called the Keep America Great PAC, supported by major GOP donors with close ties to McConnell and party leadership, has raised and spent considerable sums-over $800,000-on ads and outreach to undermine Morris’s campaign. These donors include wealthy financiers and executives like John Slavic, Scott Crockett, Brett Setzer, Alan Franco, and Eric Gustavson, many of whom have also contributed to McConnell and other Republican leaders.

Morris contrasts himself with McConnell-backed candidates Daniel cameron and Andy Barr, branding them as part of McConnell’s political machine.Despite Morris trailing in polls, the significant spending against him suggests he is considered a serious long-term threat to establishment candidates. The PAC’s attacks label Morris as “woke” and tie him to McConnell from his past internship, attempting to discredit his outsider appeal.

While Cameron remains the front-runner and has not faced negative ads from the PAC, the primary battle in Kentucky is framed as a contest between the MAGA wing and the mcconnell establishment. Morris’s campaign continues to emphasize his alignment with former President Trump and promises to represent Kentucky independently from McConnell’s influence.

Mitch McConnell is retiring.
