Troops arrived at the D.C. armory as part of this initiative, which also includes measures requiring homeless individuals to accept shelter or treatment or face jail time to clean up the streets. The move has sparked mixed reactions among D.C. residents. some, like Melanie Splendora, expressed relief and a sense of increased safety due to rising crime, while others, such as Shashank Bharadwaj and Axol Campo, criticized the takeover as unneeded or a dangerous overreach, citing concerns about militarization, civil rights, and the displacement of vulnerable populations. Despite the city’s strong Democratic leanings-where trump received minimal voter support-the federal government retains authority over D.C., providing Trump with legal grounds for the intervention. the takeover has ignited debate about law enforcement, public safety, and governance in the nation’s capital.

Trump’s takeover of blue DC met with praise and rage by fed-up residents

Washington D.C. residents are preparing for a federal takeover of local law enforcement as National Guard troops made their way to the District Tuesday morning.

The first troops arrived at the D.C.
