So the idea that he could be mounting an actual challenge to Trump&rsquo;s Republican Party would have been news indeed.<\/p>\n<p>But as The Daily Caller White House correspondent Reagan Reese wrote in an <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/08\/11\/elon-musk-america-party-white-house-big-beautiful-bill-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article published Monday<\/a>, there appears to be nothing in the way of follow-through coming yet.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Musk hasn&rsquo;t even mentioned the effort in over a month, and insiders told the Daily Caller that it seems Musk has begun to realize just how difficult what he pledged to do would be,&rdquo; Reese wrote.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of Musk&rsquo;s announcement, Trump branded the idea of a third party &ldquo;ridiculous.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NEW: Trump Responds to Elon Musk Starting a Third Party When Asked By a Reporter: &ldquo;Third parties have never really worked. So he can have fun with it, but I think it&rsquo;s ridiculous.&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qTARvvE1Jx\">pic.twitter.com\/qTARvvE1Jx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Chuck Callesto (@ChuckCallesto) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChuckCallesto\/status\/1941980740780277760?\">July 6, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Musk, of course, has other things on his plate besides politics.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2025\/08\/05\/starship-elon-musk-spacex-launch\/85521136007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a> reported last week, Musk&rsquo;s SpaceX could be nearing a new test flight for its Starship rocket, a 400-foot spacecraft the newspaper called &ldquo;crucial&rdquo; to future space ambitions, for Musk and the country as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>Musk is a very public booster of manned trips to Mars &mdash; extraterrestrial exploration is vital &ldquo;for the long-term survival of civilization,&rdquo; he said, USA Today reported.<\/p>\n<p>Humanity is essentially faced with the prospect of branching out or dying out.<\/p>\n<p>One path means &ldquo;we stay on Earth forever and then there will be some sort of eventual extinction event,&rdquo; he wrote in a 2017 paper published by the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liebertpub.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1089\/space.2017.29009.emu?journalCode=space\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Space<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the electronics news-centric website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/culture\/elon-musk-at-sxsw-id-like-to-die-on-mars-just-not-on-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNET<\/a>, Musk told the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, in 2013 that he wants to die on Mars &mdash; &ldquo;just not on impact.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>There are also very earthly concerns for Musk to consider about starting a party that would compete almost exclusively with Republicans for support.<\/p>\n<p>(Besides Musk&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >famously libertarian inclinations &#038;mdash<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/elon-musk-will-pay-legal-bills-x-users-unfairly-treated-posting-liking-platform-no-limit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free speech<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/elon-musk-confirms-new-third-partys-official-stance-gun-ownership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gun rights<\/a>, etc. &mdash; his popularity among liberals is so low it can be measured in the number of Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/college-student-spring-break-spots-tesla-ruins-life-next-alleged-move\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vehicles damaged<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/suspect-arson-tesla-dealership-gop-office-captured-authorities-find-damning-evidence-residence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dealerships attacked<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/suspected-tesla-arsonist-stupidity-cemented-history-crime-scene-message-goes-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leftists<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>According to Reese&rsquo;s report, a former Department of Government Efficiency consultant who launched a political action committee specifically to counter the threat of a Musk third party said Musk has realized that helping Democrats might not be so helpful to his own interests.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Make no mistake, there is a real threat to both Elon and to his businesses if the Democrats were to regain control,&rdquo; James Fishback, CEO of the Arizona investment firm Azoria, told Reese.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;That&rsquo;s a message that I d privately with Tesla executives, and that may have been part of the reason why he attenuated his positioning on that.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Musk can be unpredictable, of course.
