This doxxing of private individuals involved in public record requests sparked controversy, with defenders arguing these citizen journalists must accept public scrutiny, while critics condemned the exposure as retaliatory and harmful.

Do Better Denver, an anonymous account founded in 2023, highlights local challenges such as crime, homelessness, and city policies perceived as enabling public disorder. The account has nearly 150,000 followers across platforms and regularly posts videos and documents obtained via Colorado’s <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/nbc-news-reporter-suggests-open-records-laws-are-being-abused-to-expose-crt-in-schools/" title="NBC News ... The Post’s examination stemmed from the account’s growing influence and alleged spread of misinformation, though the women exposed were verified not to be the account administrators but contributors.

The story also touches on Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s policies addressing homelessness and public safety, noting the doubling of homelessness despite costly initiatives and controversies over “housing first” programs that require no obligations from recipients. The mayor’s office allegedly monitored CORA requests linked to do Better denver to identify contributors, a claim denied by the Post’s editorial staff.

The article criticizes large media organizations and fact-checkers like PolitiFact for their extensive resources and alleged bias, contrasting them with grassroots citizen journalism such as Do Better Denver. The overall narrative discusses tensions between local goverment openness, citizen activism, media ethics, and the challenges facing Denver related to homelessness, crime, and public policy.

On Aug. 1, The Denver Post exposed the names, locations, voter registrations, and employment of three private citizens who legally obtained public information and sent some to the popular social media account Do Better Denver. The public records they shared with the accountholder comprise less than 1 percent of Do Better Denver posts.

Bradbury also wrote that the Post targeted the women specifically for exercising their legal rights to view public information.
