The probe covers potential mortgage, bank, and wire fraud, which could carry penalties of up to 30 years in prison. Schiff has been accused of falsely declaring his Maryland home as his primary residence from 2009 to 2020 to obtain cheaper mortgages, a claim he denies, stating both his California and Maryland addresses were used legitimately for loan purposes. Similarly, James faces allegations of falsifying records to secure home loans on a Virginia property during a time she was serving in new York. These investigations coincide with a DOJ grand jury inquiry into James&#8217;s office related to its actions against former President Trump ahead of the 2024 election. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1317078623\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;Attorney General Bondi and President Trump have given me a very serious and mission,&rdquo; Martin told the outlet. &ldquo;For months DOJ and the FBI have been working on these two cases, it is my job to stick the landing.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist&rsquo;s Beth Brelje previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/07\/15\/feds-find-adam-no-one-is-above-the-law-schiff-likely-committed-mortgage-fraud-trump-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, Schiff &mdash; a major <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/adam-schiff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump-Russia collusion hoaxer<\/a> &mdash; was singled out by President Trump in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TruthTrumpPosts\/status\/1945128748678046064\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Truth Social post<\/a> over allegations of mortgage fraud last month. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Trump announced that Schiff had been investigated by Fannie Mae&rsquo;s Financial Crimes division, which found Schiff may have committed mortgage fraud for more than a decade after he refinanced one of his homes &mdash; the one in Maryland, not the one in California,&rdquo; Brelje wrote. &ldquo;According to Trump, from 2009 to 2020, Schiff allegedly declared the Maryland home his primary residence &lsquo;to get a cheaper mortgage and to rip off America.&#8217;&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>As noted by Brelje, questions surrounding Schiff&rsquo;s primary residency have been &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/11\/06\/real-estate\/congressman-adam-schiff-claims-primary-residence-in-maryland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">widely<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/california-rep-adam-schiff-has-lived-in-maryland-for-a-decade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>&rdquo; for years, with even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/disneylands-snow-white-ride-sparks-leftist-outrage-over-lack-of-consent-in-cartoon-kiss\/\" title=\"Disneyland\u2019s \u2018Snow White\u2019 Ride Sparks Leftist Outrage Over \u2018Lack Of Consent\u2019 In Cartoon Kiss\">left-wing outlets<\/a> such as CNN reporting on the potential scandal. <\/p>\n<p>For his part, Schiff has reportedly denied any wrongdoing. A then-Schiff Senate campaign spokeswoman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcra.com\/article\/rep-adam-schiff-claimed-primary-residences-in-maryland-and-california\/45722456\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> CNN in 2023, &ldquo;Adam&rsquo;s California and Maryland addresses have been listed as primary residences for loan purposes because they are both occupied throughout the year and to distinguish them from a vacation property.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, James has faced similar accusations of committing mortgage fraud. <\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist&rsquo;s Brianna Lyman&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/16\/letitia-no-one-is-above-the-law-james-accused-of-doing-exactly-what-she-prosecuted-trump-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, U.S. Federal Housing Director William J. Pulte sent a criminal referral to the Department of Justice in April alleging James &ldquo;&lsquo;falsified records&rsquo; to obtain home loans for a property in Virginia that she claimed in 2023 was her &lsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/letitia-james-faces-bar-complaint-over-alleged-mortgage-fraud\/\" title=\"Letitia James Faces Bar Complaint Over Alleged ...\">principal residence&#038;rsquo<\/a>; despite serving in New York at the time, according to The [New York] Post.&rdquo; &ldquo;The alleged falsification,&rdquo; Lyman wrote, &ldquo;occurred weeks before she launched her&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/27\/ny-judges-scrutinize-troubling-450-million-penalty-in-trump-fraud-case-no-one-lost-any-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">politically motivated sham trial<\/a>&nbsp;against the Trump Organization for allegedly inflating the values of its properties.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Like Schiff, James has denied any wrongdoing in the matter, according to the Post. <\/p>\n<p>Friday&rsquo;s revelation came to light the same day it was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/08\/report-doj-opens-grand-jury-probe-into-ny-ag-letitia-james-get-trump-lawfare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> the DOJ has launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-president-trump-gives-pardons-to-73-individuals-and-commutes-another-70-sentences-steve-bannon-is-included\/\" title=\"BREAKING: ...
